You are more than welcome to reschedule any booked tutorial. You can do this by emailing your client manager, DesRay. We will then confirm this change before the start time of the original booking, or your booking will revert to the original time and you may be charged if you have not given 24 hours notice. Reschedule requests can only be made by a parent or a student, and not a tutor.
A session can be for as long as you wish. Upon receiving your enquiry, we will discuss your requirements and then suggest an appropriate lesson duration and frequency. The average lesson is 1 hour, but it is advisable to discuss timings directly with your client manager (DesRay).
Tuition offers a completely different learning approach from school. It is becoming increasingly popular as students and parents begin to realise the enormous progress that can be made in these sessions. The personal attention tutors and knowledge our tutors offer, can help inspire students and bring confidence to their learning.
If at any point you are unhappy with the tutor we have provided, you can contact us on O82 089 0994 or email email@example.com and we will happily assess the situation and if needed we will provide you with a new tutor. For more information, please read our Terms of Service.
Your tutor will work with you to help you understand where you are having difficulty and how to find strategies to overcome obstacles to learning. A tutor can help you gain new perspectives on your learning by asking questions, explaining concepts in different ways, sharing examples and resources, helping connect prior knowledge to current classes, suggesting study strategies, providing encouragement, and more.
Anyone can benefit from tutoring! Tutoring is a habit of engaged, successful students who care about their learning. It can help students ease anxiety about difficult courses, deepen understanding and retention of course content, and help develop more effective study skills.
Of course, we don’t restrict what tutors do outside of their lessons. All that we ask is that you’re aware that you represent Academic Success Achievers when tutoring our students, so you should always follow our teaching guidelines and adhere to your Tutoring Agreement.
Due to the nature of what we do, we feel that an interview is necessary before we can accept anyone as a tutor. We as ASA conduct telephonic interviews regularly. Once you’ve completed your profile and it has been reviewed, you will have to complete an assessment which will determine your skill set. Lastly, you will receive an email regarding a time for the telephonic interview; make sure that you are available during that time. We realise that you may be very keen to begin tutoring, but we never intend our relationship with tutors to be short-term, and as such do not rush to recruit anyone. If, at any point, your application is unsuccessful, you will receive an email immediately.
Once you have had your interview, you will be contacted within two working days. If successful, you may then view a list of potential students and start accepting tutoring opportunities.
We regularly ask students for feedback in order to check that their lessons are going well. It is also a good idea for tutors to periodically check with students and parents whether they have any concerns. Tutors are also welcome to discuss any concerns they have with us, and we will do our best to offer advice. If at any time the student or tutor feel that they are not deriving the maximum benefit, we will discuss it further, and can change the tutor for that student if either wish to do so.
The most common time commitment for a student is 1 hour each week until their exams. There are often students who only want lessons a few weeks before their exam, just over the holidays, or intensively for a week. Of course every student is different and we will let you know what the student expects from you along with any other information.
You will receive a payment order on the last day of the month that details how much you will be paid. We then pay all tutors on the first day of the next month (the next day). All payments are made via EFT transfers to the bank account details you’ve provided on your profile. Due to varying interbank transfer periods, the money may take 3 – 5 days to reflect in your account.
Our tutors are required to go to student’s homes for each tutoring session. For students under 16 years of age we strongly recommend that tuition take place in the student’s home, where a parent or guardian is present. However, for all other students, tuition may be arranged wherever agreed.
We look at a number of factors to decide which tutor would best suit the needs of the student. The key criteria are the qualifications tutors have in the subject to be tutored, and whether they can travel to the location required by the student. We also look at whether tutors are able to meet any individual requirements a student may have, and take into account a tutor’s feedback from previous students and their assessment performance.
Once you become a tutor, you will be able to log into the website on your desktop or even your phone where you can view a list of potential students that you are eligible to tutor. If you want to apply to tutor a student, we will usually let you know within 7 days whether you have been selected as that student’s tutor. If so, you will receive a calendar with the set amount of lessons and the dates & times of all of them.
Since English is a commonly-used and most easily understood language in South Africa, we expect all of our tutors to have excellent spoken English. During your telephonic interview, one of our criteria will be to check that you can communicate ideas clearly and fluently in English. We will also check that your sentences are grammatically correct on your application.
No. The minimum requirement to become an ASA Tutor is that you should have received a matric distinction in the specific High School subject that you would like to tutor. Significant teaching/tutoring experience is not a requirement but it is very advantageous. Also, each of our tutors must be 18 or over.
